Psychedelics& Self-Healing

Disclaimer: Self-Healing is not for everyone, if you are seeking help please consider a liscenced professional.

What are psychedelics exactly and how do they affect the mind?

All around us, nature and science provides various hallucinogenic drugs that trigger altered states of consciousness when consumed. These substances are known to cause visual and auditory changes that may produce changes in perception, mood and cognitive function. Psychedelics are primarily known to affect serotonin making them a useful tool in mind therapy. Doctors and scientists have found through extensive studies that in conjunction with regulated therapy, microdosing may treat many mental illnesses such as PTSD and Depression.

Broke Boi Tek is an affordable and essentially easy method to produce mushrooms with minimal equipment and resources. You can also legally purchase mushroom spores from several websites online however the one I used will be down below in " Equipment".

*Disclaimer I did not fully design Broke Boi Tek. However I did change several steps to make it a bit more cost efficient. An estimated cost for the equipment used will be listed below as well.

What is Broke Boi Tek?

Equipment & Cost (estimates):

  • Golden Teacher Spore Syringe -- $22.99

  • Coco Coir -- $20.16

  • Rubbing Alcohol -- $2

  • Spray Bottle for Misting -- $3

  • Organic Vermiculite -- $13.50

  • 4 Glass Jars 32oz -- $16

  • 3 Plastic Clear Storage Bins 95qt -- $15

  • Brown Rice -- $3

  • Colander to drain rice -- $5

  • Aluminum -- $2

  • Gloves -- $5

  • Small Torch or lighter -- $10

  • Plastic bags to line bottom of storage bins -- $4

Overall cost is around $80 - $100 for everything. You may be able to make this more affordable if you already have some of the equipment at home.

Method:

  • Fill medium pot with 4 jars of water to boil. Then measure 2 jars of brown rice. Once water is boil turn down to a low medium simmer. Partially cook rice for 10 min so rice grains do not burst. Drain rice in colander and cool.

  • When rice is cool fill mason jars 3/4 full. Then flip lids inside out (so the white is on top) and screw lid on the jars but leave them loose so air can be exchanged. After, take aluminum and rip up for squares to cover the tops of your mason jars.

  • Next you want to sterilize your mason jars so take your large pot and 4 mason jar lids or a trivet. Add just enough water to cover lids to steam your 4 mason jars of rice. Bring pot up to a boil then lower down to a low medium simmer to steam the jars. *Make sure there is always water in the pot.

  • Create an inoculation chamber with 1 plastic storage bin by cutting out 2 holes for your arms on one side. You want to make sure you're careful so there isn't any contamination during this process. Take your 4 sterilized mason jars of rice and place them in the inoculation chamber you made. Now, take your spore syringe use your torch to sterilize the needle. Shake the mixture well so the spores are evenly distributed. Squirt the spores evenly into the sides of the jar so you can see the mycelium grow later.

  • Mycelium will take up to 2 -3 weeks to fully colonize in the jar. When your jars look like this you will want to shake up the jar so you can speed up the colonization process and spread the mycelium throughout the jar.

  • Now wait for your jars to fully colonize and turn completely white and fuzzy for growing. This will take up to 4 weeks depending on the strain and genetics of your mushrooms.

  • Boil 4.5 qt of water to prepare 1 brick of coco coir in a sterile bucket or large pot. To finish add 2 cups of vermiculite. You want it to lightly drip when you squeeze it in your hands (this is how you know it has a good moisture content but isn't too wet).

  • Line the bottom of your 2 storage bins with plastic bags (I recommend using anything but a scented bag). Once your bins are lined take a spoon and open 2 jars of mycelium and evenly fill bottom of 1 box with the rice mix. Do this again for your other storage bin. Add your coco coir mixture to top of mycelium rice and use your hands to evenly mix through, then top off with .25in of coco coir mix. Cut bags so they are not above dirt mixture and mist with spray bottle. Put your lid on top to close and set aside for 10 days for mycelium to spread through the bin.

  • When mycelium is fully spread through the bin flip your bin lid upside down and then it will be in fruiting mode. Use a mister spray bottle throughout this process so their is an ideal humid environment for the mushrooms to grow in. They will take about 17 days to be ready to harvest depending on your grow.

  • Tips:

  • Fresh air is important for your mushrooms to grow. Make sure they have a nice cycle of air exchange but be careful not to allow too much air flow and dry out your mushroom growth. I use a spray bottle to mist mine everyday or so so they have a nice flow. There are probably much better ways to achieve this indoors though so experiment with your methods and know that this is a learning process to achieve better results each time you grow.

  • Make sure tubs are not fully closed so air can exchange for your mushrooms.

  • Keep temperatures 70 - 80 fahrenheit

  • Keep an eye on your dirt so they are misted but not over saturated.

  • Manure is known to be a good source of nutrients for mushrooms if you want to give yours extra love. This is simple a "cheap" method for beginner growers.

  • If you would like practice I recommend buying a grow kit or watching videos online. You will get different advice from various growers.
